Tips on how to care for your feet during winter

After a very dry summer winter is coming......even with the current balmy temperatures we are having during the day, the chill is in the air. To ensure your feet and toes are in tip top condition for this, I have the following hints and tips for you and how to treat your feet this winter.

Hints and Tips:
  • Most of us will have a care program we will follow for our faces and hands.......cleanse, exfoliate, day cream, night cream, sun screen. Our feet which take us everywhere we wish to go are often ignored. A pedicure should be done twice per month. You can either get a professional to do this or click here for a lovely home pedicure......don't forget the red wine, good book and chocolate to add to this process. Relaxation is a wonderful thing. The reason you need to do this is to get rid of dead skin, improve circulation, keep your toenails in check and to keep the skin soft on your feet - not only will your feet look and feet wonderful it also reduces the chance of you getting any type of fugal infection.
  • Or if your idea of bliss is to sit and soak your feet you can also make this lovely natural home foot soak
  • If you don't have time for a pedicure this often, then another top tip to keep your feet in great shape is, buy a pair of natural fibre socks, rub Vaseline all over your feet and then put on the socks, you can do this just before you go to bed. Combine this with gently scrubbing your feet with a pumice stone and your feet will thank you.
  • To stop your feet from getting cold, wear closed in shoes and socks but don't wear more than one pair of socks or tie footwear too tight, as this will restrict circulation and cause cold feet, so make sure you are wearing the correct style of footwear for your foot shape
  • Wear slippers inside or a big pair of fluffy socks.
  • Don't try and warm up your feet too quickly if they are chilled, this can cause chilblains. Just pop on some warm socks, slippers and move about, your feet will soon be toasty.
  • Do foot exercises to improve blood flow. Click here to learn how.
  • Just like your face, you should moisturise your feet daily.
  • Don't wear the same shoes every day, in winter there is more chance of your shoes becoming wet, make sure they have a chance to completely dry out before you wear them again, again this reduces the chance of you get a fugal infection.
