Should you wear the same shoes everyday?:
I will be the first to admit that I am one of these people that has favourite shoes and I will wear them into the ground, repair/patch and wear them past the point of no return before I will retire them with full honours!
So although if I am being honest I own about 20 pairs of shoes (I had a clean out recently it used to be a lot more!) I normally am selecting between 2-3 of them most days of the week, while the rest sit stuffed in the bottom of the wardrobe waiting for the "special occasion", "cooler weather" or "other situation" I have deemed that they should be used for.
So is it fact or fiction than wearing the same pair of shoes everyday is not the best idea for both your body and the shoes?
- As much as all like to pretend we don't sweat, it's not true and we all do it and yes we have sweat glands in our feet and what absorbs this sweat? Our shoes. Sweat contains salt and this will break down the insides of your footwear a lot faster if it is not getting a chance to dry out properly between wears.
- Wearing the same shoes everyday will also increase your chance of a fungal infection as well due to the fact the shoes are not drying out properly - great breeding ground for bugs.....not to mention smells ;-).
- Shoes will last longer if they are not being used everyday, not only do they have a chance to dry out between wears it also gives a chance for the padded foot beds and other comfort features to revert.
- Different shoes hit on different pressure points. Got sore feet - change your shoes. So not wearing the same shoes everyday means different pressure points are activated and also different muscles used in the body.
- For the ladies - don't wear the same heel height everyday especially if you like high heels, this will stop things like your tendons and calf muscles shortening also wear flats if you have to do a lot of walking and change into the heels when you arrive.
So yes it's true, don't wear the same pair of shoes everyday and the shoes will last longer and your feet and body will also be happier.
