How to Store your Shoes

How to store your shoes

So you buy yourself a new pair of shoes and get them home and then how do you store them to ensure that they last a long time and stay in top condition?

The Shoe Box/Plastic containers:
  • Shoes come in boxes and are stored in warehouses in boxes and often for long periods of time, the shoes stay in top condition in this environment as the boxes come with ventilation holes and little sachets fill of product that pulls moisture from the shoes as they lay there. So therefore lots of people think storing shoes in their original boxes is the best idea and some people also like to do this as a decorative wall statement in their bedroom, which is fine. However if you use this choice then please follow the following advice. Make sure you put extra holes into the box so that the air can circulate and the leather breathe. Don't put the shoes back into the box for at least 24 hours after you have worn them and this is particularly important if you don't wear them often and the reason is  = Sweat. We all do it and sweat contents salt and if the shoes are not completely dry when they are popped away and have poor air circulation then this sweat will cause the leather and linings to start breaking down and also encourage mould to grow. So please ensure if you use shoe boxes or plastic containers that the shoes are completely dry before you pop them away.
The Shoe Rack:
  • These come in different types from the rack that can go at the backdoor or in the wardrobe to ones that hang over the door. They are a great idea as air gets to circulate around the footwear while they are not being worn. Please though be aware where you put your shoe rack. You need it out of direct sunlight (unless it's old gardening shoes and then who cares) and also away from heat or in an environment where the temperature alters a lot and this will keep your shoes in top condition and if you are worried about dust, just give them a quick brush over before you wear them each time.
I actually just store mine in the bottom of the wardrobe, same principle applies they, in needs to be a dry environment with air circulating.
