How to dry wet shoes

How to dry wet shoes:

So you have purchased a new pair of shoes, some leathers are scotch guard (water proof), most however are not and like a shiny new car that has a coat of wax on it, the natural water protection will need replacing. There are a couple of options for water proofing footwear:
  • If the shoes are non leather, suede, nubuck or a combo then the best product to use is a rain repel this will keep your feet dry and also provide a natural barrier layer on your footwear which means if they do get wet and stained they will be easier to restore to their original glory.
  • If the shoes are a flat leather then you can also use beeswax which will waterproof the shoe and also condition the leather.
So after water proofing the shoes, you get caught in a huge storm and are ankle deep in water, how do you dry your shoes so that the leather and lining of the shoes is not damaged:
  • As soon as get out of the weather, carefully wipe the excess water off the outside of the shoe, if it's a suede leather use a gentle motion so you do not bruise the material
  • Get out the newspaper paper and stuff your shoes with it, the best method is to draw the moisture out of the leather, replace the paper every few hours until it stays dry.
  • Heat is not your friend in this situation, do not put the shoes near the fire or in the hot water cupboard, leave them to naturally air dry inside.
  • Once the shoes are dry, if they are a flat leather then polish them and re apply the water proofing as described above.
  • If they are a suede material use a suede brush and then reapply the water proofing spray.
