Giving yourself a foot massage is an important tool in keeping your feet in great condition. Not only does it feel wonderful, it also works muscles and increases the blood flow and therefore circulation in your feet. It is a great prevention tool against foot strain and injury.
  • The first step in giving yourself a massage is to soak your feet for 15 minutes in warm water and Epsom salts to relax your muscles and warm them up before you massage them. This is an important step as massaging cold muscles can cause muscle strain and discomfort.
  • Dry your feet up and then prop one foot on top of your other leg with the sole turned in towards you
  • Spread a nice moisturising cream or massage oil onto your foot. With your thumbs massage in a deep circulation motion starting just behind your toes and working towards your heel. Do small areas at a time.
  • Then turn your foot over and massage the top of your foot with the same slow, circular motion.
  • Now it time to turn your attention to your little tooties. Give each toe a slow, gentle tug and then wiggle it gently from side to side.
  • Repeat process with other foot
  • Please note if you have an area in your foot that aches and is sore it is properly being cause by a muscle knot so  before you massage the area, press down firmly on the area with your thumbs and hold for several seconds and then release.
You can also do the following if you have additional time to continue to improve blood flow and circulation:
  • Pinch gently along the outside of the sole of your foot.
  • Lightly slap the soles of your feet or pound gently with a lost feet and then rub your foot with a sweeping motion
Also as a final suggestion, if you do not have the flexibility to do this yourself, then invest in a small home foot spa that has the roller bars in the bottom and you can then massage your feet on these while soaking them.
