Styles of shoes for different toe shapes.

So what shape are you?

So what do you toes say about you and the style of shoe you should be wearing? When was the last time you actually looked down at your feet and thought about the way your toes sit? Have a wee look and then match yourself with the picture below, which one are you? I've a Roman foot :-)

So what does this mean in terms of the shoes you wear? The general rule of thumb is:
  • With the Roman, Germanic and Celtic shapes, round toes are going to suit this shape better and reduce the risk of bunions. This shape does not appeal to everyone so you can also look at the square toe shape, where the end of the shoe ends in a square and not a point!  If you try on a pair of shoes and your toes are being crushed at the end of the shoe, try something else :-)
  • With the Greek and Celtic shapes you need to fit your footwear for your longest toe, not the big toe. If you don't fit for the longer toe it will cause pressure which will result in pain and also your toes being pushed out of line over time.
  • With the Eqyptian shape, you can wear most styles, including the tapered styles.
The final rule of thumb is you should be able to wiggle your toes when they are in your shoes!
